Liquorice may not sound particularly Icelandic but if you have ever been to Iceland you will know that it is a key ingredient in many Icelanders’ diet. Being a Icelandic with just a little self-respect you basically need to have something with liquorice in it. Norður Liquorice Sea Salt consists of a unique blend of liquorice powder and sustainable raw sugar. It can best be accompanied with white fish, salads or sprinkled over desserts and ice cream to get the most out of the unique taste of the liquorice salt.
Norður Salt is made by a traditional Icelandic/Danish method dating back to 1753 that was practiced in the same place we make Norður Salt today. This traditional method and the location of the production in Breiðafjörður is what Norður Salt believes to be the ideal conditions to make flaky sea salt. The same reasons behind the salt making 260 years ago explain why they are here today.
From the Arctic sea to Norður Salt salt flakes
The salt production is about combining two forces of nature; geothermal energy and the Arctic Ocean. At the salt production facility in Karlsey, Reykhólar, they use both geothermal water directly from the geothermal wells at Reykhólar.
