Christmas ball ornament – #3 Pottasleikir & Askasleikir
kr. 2.990
The figures are handpainted from the inside -naive renditions of the Yule Lads! Gold painted decoration outside of ball at top and bottom, packaged in cushioned red box. This ball features:
Pottasleikir or Pot Licker, is the fifth Yule Lad to journey into town on the 16th of December. Rather like Spoon Licker, Pot Licker satiates his hunger by “washing-up” for his unsuspecting hosts.
and
Askasleikir or Bowl Licker, is the sixth Yule Lad to mosey down from the mountains on the 17th of December. Yet another one of the hungry brothers who licks things clean, Askasleikir specializes in bowls.

Icelandic folklore is rich in its tales of trolls and elves – and many of the stories and traditions surrounding Yuletide and Christmas still play their part in the present culture. One such folktale is that of the Yule Lads – thirteen rascally lads, their troll parents Grýla and Leppalúði and a huge, hungry cat that used to terrify children and adults alike. These legendary characters journeyed down from the mountains to farms and villages around Yuletide and showed up especially wherever they could find food or play little pranks. Their names reflect what they did in the old days, but over time the lads have become somewhat better behaved and nowadays they even leave little gifts for children during Yuletide. Brian Pilkington, artist and author, has designed these Yule Lad ornaments exclusively for Sólarfilma as well as figurines, playing cards, glassware, mugs and more.
