We are driving from þingvellir National Park in the mid of July, is it okay to drive there with a normal car? Or do we have to rent a 4×4 drive car?
    Thank you very much!!

    • Sryvk Jul, 14 - 2016 - reply

      Hi Margaret,
It is okey to come with a normal car, don’t worry.
      Enjoy your holidays.

  6. Sally Jul, 18 - 2016 - reply

Hi, I am wondering how long it normally takes to visit here? Would you say that an hour is about enough?

    • Sryvk Jul, 20 - 2016 - reply

      Hi Sally,
It really depends on the person visiting.
Personally I would take my time, and since the moment I leave the parking lot until I get back to the car it would take me 30/40 mins.
This for a fast look around, normally you will need 1:30 hours, passing through the shop and restaurant as well.

  7. Phyllis Jul, 19 - 2016 - reply

Can we access the waterfall in the winter (November)?

    Thanks

    • Sryvk Jul, 20 - 2016 - reply

      Hæ Phyllis,

      Yes you can!
Just keep an eye out for weather conditions and road conditions every day during winter and careful walking around because of spots of ice on the floor.
(this is recommended in all of Iceland during winter, not just in Gullfoss)

  8. Laila Jul, 26 - 2016 - reply

    Hello,

Is it possible to walk around with a stroller in order to see the waterfall?

    • Sryvk Jul, 26 - 2016 - reply

      Hi Laila,

During summer it is possible to go on the top view platform by always keeping a eye on the wood pathway.
For the bottom view point you can only go to the edge close to this parking lot, it is not possible to go up-close to the waterfall, it is to dangerous with a stroller.

      During winter, simply don’t!

Hello! My wife and i visited Iceland (and your lovely giftshop) a few months ago. While there, she purchased a keychain. The ornament is a rubber black bird/raven with a sort of angry look. Her purse was just stolen, and she is most sad about the keychain. Would it be possible to see if you still have them and ship one to the US?
    Thank you!

Hi, I visited in nov16 and bought some souvenirs. However I did not received my tax refund to my credit card. May I know which tax refund company I should approach to ask? I was told there’s another company other than Global Blue. Thanks!

    • Sryvk Dec, 14 - 2016 - reply

Dear Spencer thank you for asking, this is a question a lot of people have.

You are suppose to do the tax free when leaving Iceland, you must have the form, fill it out and do it in the Airport.

      Additional information: https://premiertaxfree.com/how-shop-tax-free/iceland

For anyone interested, please think about tax free while you are in Iceland, not after, there are a lot of people who dont care for it while they are here and when they leave they want to do it. It is required a forms this form is printed from the registers with the invoice, if you do not get it from the store at the moment, it will not print it again and you will not be able to do it after. This is a incentive from premiertaxfree it is not the shop that refund you. You have to get a different paper for each shop.

      Additional information:

How to shop Tax Free in Iceland

      Currency: ISK
VAT rates: Standard 24%, food and books 11%.
Eligible for VAT refunds: Non-Iceland residents.
Minimum spend: 6,000 ISK on the same day and in the same store.
Export validation: To be obtained within 3 months after the month of purchase.

If you are purchasing goods in Iceland for personal export, ask in store for a Premier Tax Free form. Complete the form, have it signed by a store employee and attach the original purchase receipts to it.

Then get the export validation and your refund in cash or onto your credit card.

      Get export validation and refund

In order to get your tax refund, Tax Free forms must always be export validated within 3 months after the month of purchase.

When leaving Iceland, before checking in your luggage at the airport, present your completed Tax Free forms along with the original purchase receipts to the Premier Tax Free refund agent. Have your passport, purchased items and flight ticket with you for possible inspection. The refund agent will export validate your Tax Free forms and refund you in cash (cash fee may apply) or to your credit card.

For a credit card refund make sure you write the number of a valid credit card on the Tax Free form.

Can you please help me with a photography related question? Of course a decent portion of sunlight is required here… but

I will visit Iceland in week 08, 2017. Many thanks in advance for your kind reply.

  20. Shana Mar, 20 - 2017 - reply

Good day, we’re planning on visiting your beautiful waterfall next week and will be walking it with a 4 year old. I’m very aware I need to keep a tight watch on her, but would you recommend a harness or other safety device when walking near the falls? She does a good job minding, but like any child loves to run around. I wasn’t sure if I was being paranoid or reasonably cautious. I haven’t been able to find any recommendations regarding kids and winter visits, so thank you kindly in advance.

    • Rafael Cardoso Mar, 23 - 2017 - reply

      Hi Shana,
You are more than welcome to visit our beautiful waterfall, but in this case I recommend to be very aware and to keep a tight watch on her near the waterfalls.
I dont know how is going to be the weather during your stay in Iceland but if the floor gets icy I would recommend a harness or even to wear spikes/traction on shoes.

      Hope this could help.

  21. Smitty Mar, 24 - 2017 - reply

Are there wheelchair accessible routes near the falls? Also, is there a wheelchair accessible transit option between downtown Reykjavík and the falls?

    • Rafael Cardoso Mar, 25 - 2017 - reply

      Hello Smitty,
There are two parking lots near the waterfall, one below which has wheelchair accessible route near the waterfall, and another one above, where you can see the waterfall from above but the path it is not so good for wheelchair but still it is possible to do it by wheelchair.
About the other question im sorry to say that i did not understand it, the distance between downtown Reykjavik and Gullfoss is quite far, it is around 118 Km, but i can tell you that the roads are in good condition.

      Hope this could help.

  25. David Aug, 15 - 2017 - reply

    Dear,

I’m referring to the Jökulsárlón parking lot policy where camping is prohibited but allowed for people in a camping van (with toilet).
So, I was wondering if this also something that is applicable at the parking lot of the Gullfoss falls?

Many thanks for your assistance & prompt response.

    Kind regards
    David

    • Vitor Félix Aug, 16 - 2017 - reply

Where not to camp for the night in your camper van

It might seem like a good idea to stay overnight in parking lots outside gas stations, hotels, even on streets in towns and villages but it’s not. Hotels and gas stations are for their customers. If you want to use the bathroom at a gas station, you fill up the car and/or have lunch there. You don’t use the facilities and then bring your own lunch into the dining area.

It’s frowned upon if you park in parking places at camping sites so you cn use their facilities, One never parks the camper in parking lots. If you want to park the camper over night outside a camping site, contact the land owner and ask permission and make sure you are away from everything, are not in the way for anybody and do not leave anything behind.

      Where may I camp?
      • Along public routes in inhabited areas, you may pitch a traditional camping tent for one night on uncultivated land, provided there is no campsite in the immediate vicinity and the land owner has not restricted or prohibited access, passage or stay within the area by means of signs on gates and walking paths.
      • Along public routes in uninhabited areas, you may pitch a traditional camping tent on privately owned land or national land.
      • Away from public routes, you may pitch a traditional camping tent, either on privately owned or national land, unless otherwise indicated in special rules which may be applicable to the land area in question.
When must I get the permission of the land owner or right-holder?
      • If you plan to camp near places of human habitation or farms.
      • If you plan to camp for longer than one night.
      • If you plan to pitch more than three tents.
      • If the land is cultivated.
      • If you plan to use tent trailers, tent campers, caravans, camper vans or similar outside organised campsites or urban areas.

Are there any areas where I may not camp/spend the night?
      • Land owners or right holders may restrict or prohibit camping if there is substantial risk of damage to the country’s natural environment.
•If the landowner or right holder has prepared a special camping area on their land, they may direct travelers to it and charge a service fee. Similarly, if there is a campsite in the vicinity, the landowner or right holder may direct travelers to it.
      • There may be restrictions on camping in protected areas (see the list of protected areas).
So you still can camp in the wild but you need to get permission from the landowner. Remember the same rules apply wherever you camp, don’t leave anything behind you, others will follow you and they don’t want to see trash from others. We are all in this together.

  26. Heinrich Aug, 20 - 2017 - reply

Hello, referring to the overnight stay for camp, is it okay to for a normal vehicle to stay overnight at the parking lot in Gullfoss / Jökulsárlón?

  27. Heinrich Aug, 20 - 2017 - reply

referring to the overnight stay for a camper, is it also okay for a normal vehicle to stay overnight at the parking lot in Gullfoss / Jökulsárlón?

    • Vitor Félix Aug, 30 - 2017 - reply

Keep in mind, camping is only allowed in public places away from busy areas, parking lots are forbidden.
Alot of people stay near roads/entraces to the farms, this is also not allowed, if you have bought something is Iceland you can see the prices are high, imagin police fines.

  28. Francis Aug, 29 - 2017 - reply

Hello, What is the difference between GL AH12 #40 and RE RE24 #1344? Thank you. – FRANCIS

    • Vitor Félix Aug, 30 - 2017 - reply

      Hi Francis,

They are both very similar in the path they take, but the main difference is time.
The classic takes about 8 hours (it is considerate a full day trip) and the express takes 6 hours.
This means you will spend less time in the atractions to make it faster, if you inteed to take alot of pictures and take your time, Classic is the chooice, if you have a busy schedule and want to see the most the fastest, Express is the way to go.

This also provides different availability and departure times.

Hope this could be of help.

If you need more info about the tours you can always send an e-mail to Gullfoss@gullfoss.is

Hello! I need some help! My best friend recently broke his mug and the only way we could trace it was this website but we aren’t sure do you recognize this product if so where can we order one? It’s model number is M-50184 and the upc was 5690450421958 any help would be amazing! Thank you! It’s a mug with the Icelandic flag as a backdrop but it kinda fades into black and white drawings such as writings people walking etc the only color is the Iceland flag itself…any help would be amazing!

Hello! I visited Gullfoss last May and stopped in the visitor center. I saw a beautiful blanket with the Icelandic compass on it in orange. I’m pretty sure it was your store. I cannot find it in your online store and I cannot find it anywhere else. Please let me know if it was your store and if you still have it. Thank you.

      Hi, dear Sara!
We just checked and we don´t have something similar with the one that you are looking for!
Are you sure that it was our store ?
